This guide provides information on how to reference using the APA 6th edition referencing style. PLEASE NOTE: Theology students should use Chicago Footnote Style

How to reference newspaper articles

In-text reference

Neilsen and Bowen (2015) discuss the impact of technology....

OR

Digital tools have been shown to lead to deeper engagement in students (Neilsen & Bowen, 2013).

 

Reference list

Surname, Initials. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Title of newspaper, page numbers.

Neilsen, L., & Bowen, J. A. (2015, May 11). Does technology belong in classroom instruction? Wall Street Journal - Eastern Edition, p. R2.

In-text reference

According to Ricci (2015) some have started to question the need....

OR

Many have started to question whether traditional spelling still need to be taught in schools (Ricci, 2015).

NB: If there is no author then use an abbreviated form of the title, placing it in double quotation marks, as your in-text reference. 

It is clear from "Teachers sought" (2015)...

OR

Evaluating teachers needs to involve methods that have credibility with teachers ("Teachers sought", 2015).

NB: Where there is no author place the title of the article in the position of the author.

When there is no author, use the first few words of the title of the article in double quotation marks and the year in the in-text citation

When there is no author, place the article title in the author position in the reference
