APA Referencing - Education & Counselling students: Lecture notes/tutorial material

This guide provides information on how to reference using the APA 6th edition referencing style. PLEASE NOTE: Theology students should use Chicago Footnote Style

Lecture notes/tutorial material

Lecture notes or tutorial material should generally not be used as a source for assignments. Try and find another source which makes a similar point to your lecture notes or tutorial material instead of using it as a source.

If you cannot find any sources which make the same points as your lecture notes or tutorial material then as a final option you can reference them as below.

How to reference lecture notes/tutorial material

If you access lecture notes or tutorial material via Moodle you should reference them as you would an online article or document. If you know which lecturer wrote the lecture notes or tutorial material you can use them as the author. If you are unsure use Morling College as the author.

NB: you must include information about which lecture or tutorial the information came from.

In-text reference

According to Yule (2015) ...

OR

... as it had been identified (Yule, 2015).

 

Reference list

Include retrieval dates as Moodle material may change over time.

If you are given lecture notes or tutorial material in a class you should reference them as you would a book. If you know which lecturer wrote the lecture notes or tutorial material you can use them as the author. If you are unsure use Morling College as the author. The publisher will be Morling College.
